About
The Absiteology Podcast provides general surgery residents convenient, self-paced tutoring by Duke Surgery’s content experts. The podcast is designed to provide a novel supplement to residents’ traditional in-service exam preparations. Currently, the podcast is only available via the proprietary Duke Surgery Podcast iOS App as part of an ongoing observational research study (Duke IRB Pro00073801). Additional information may also be available on the Absiteology website (www.absiteology.com).
Privacy Policy
Protecting your private information is our priority. This Privacy Policy describes the policies regarding the information collected by the Duke Surgery Podcast App (the “Service”) and the Absiteology website (the “Website”, www.absiteology.com). This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) is to inform you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information when you use our Service or our Website. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy. We use your Personal Information for providing and improving the Service and—in a protected manner—for research purposes. Information Collection And Use
While using our Service, we may ask you to provide us with certain personally identifiable information (PII) that can be used to contact or identify you. Personally identifiable information may include, but is not limited to, your email address (“Personal Information”). We collect this information for the purpose of providing the Service, conducting our research, identifying and communicating with you, responding to your requests/inquiries, and improving our services.
Application Server Hosting Data
The application and podcast content itself is hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS) using a serverless architecture that is the industry standard for data protection, availability, functionality, and security. Digital assets are stored in Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) platform in US regions and retrieved through Amazon CloudFront. Application Usage Data
As part of our research protocol, we may collect information about how you use and interact with our Service (“Click Stream Data”). This data may also include information about your device’s carrier, manufacturer, or model as well as the city, region, and screen dimensions during Service usage.
By using our Service you are consenting to the collection of this data for research purposes. This information will not be shared with anyone, and will never be shared with your employer. Your data is secured on a private server and monitored by an appropriately trained research coordinator. Data will be de-identified at the earliest possible opportunity and only shared in aggregate. In collecting application usage data, we may use third-party services, such as Mixpanel, that collect, monitor and analyze this type of information in order to increase our Service’s functionality. These third-parties may use cookies to help us analyze how our users are using the Service and they have their own Privacy Policies addressing how they use such information.

Website Usage Data
We do not routinely collect any Personal Information from our Website. We may, however, collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service (“Log Data”). Children’s Privacy
The Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA) regulates the online collection of information from persons under the age of 13.
